Bobbi Brown's makeup doesn't ever exercise information technology for me. My homegirl one time described the brand as "colors for people who are afraid of colour," and I think there'south some truth to that. A lot of Bobbi'southward makeup has that jury duty experience to it, ya know? — the kind of makeup you lot'd wear to courtroom.

Simply Bobbi threw me a curve ball with the lip colors in the Mauve Drove, her new fall makeup line.

I'd been searching high and low for edgy yet wearable lipsticks and glosses in shades of regal, and these colors are, dare I say, edgy yet wearable. They're eye-communicable without going over the meridian, and inside the colors in that location's enough variety to allow you to create lots of different looks. Go on with your bad self, Ms. Brown!

Lip Color

At first I idea Pale Mauve ($22) was going to be too light for my skin tone, but once I got information technology on I actually really liked this light blue-majestic shade. It's low-cal with a sixty's feel. I plan to pair information technology with calorie-free cheeks and a cat heart with a thick black liquid liner on my upper lash line (and a mini-wearing apparel and become-go boots, ha!).

Bobbi's Lip Color lipsticks have a semi-matte formula that goes on a little thick, but at least it doesn't pare abroad after a few hours. I don't mind the lite licorice fragrance, only I'm glad it has no sense of taste/flavor. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

Heather Mauve ($22) is a night red-mauve, making it a great candidate for my easy-to-habiliment piece of work lipstick stash. I like the texture and the colour itself, only it closely matches my natural lip colour, which sort of defeats the purpose of wearing lipstick. I guess it'd exist useful as a base colour layered below ane of the other shades listed below. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B

Lip Glosses

Dig out your Cure mp3's and your smudgy eyeliner! Bobbi's Mauve Collection Lip Glosses ($19) expect demure in their petite little tubes, only these colors are equal parts edgy and sophisticated — call up goth chick in stunning black suit.

Blackness Pearl is a limited edition dark greyness-imperial with silver shimmer and appears light in both the tube and the swatch, but it applies night and rich. I don't accept anything like it in my lipgloss collection (and I own quite a few colors!).

I programme to use it to create a day-friendly, wearable goth girl look with soft greyness smokey eyes (OOH!). Chances are this is simply me, but every time I look at this lipstick I am compelled to say the words Blackness Pearl with an Elmer J. Fudd accent — "bwack pewel." Iced Mauve, a express edition red-purple with multi-colored shimmer, looks a bit less goth than Black Pearl does, but it'due south just every bit gorgeous. I call up information technology looks fabled on top of Heather Mauve Lip Color. I'd totally wear it out to an evening party with a soft taupe and light purple centre. Mauve bears a striking resemblance to MAC lipglass in Spite (a muted plum brown). While it's a pretty color and has its identify in a girl's makeup collection, information technology'southward nothing we oasis't seen before. I think I'll stick with Spite instead. Makeup and Beauty Weblog Rating: C
